Church plant and first attempt at business as ministry in Kyoto Japan
SFI’s President and founder started and established an international fellowship in Kyoto, Japan. This fellowship was turned over to ‘raised up’ local leadership and entered its 3rd decade of existence. Many Ph,Ds from a number of countries came to the Lord through this fellowship and the majority of them are still following the Lord and are scattered throughout the globe! Several are serving in leadership capacities in their present fellowships. Some have gone on to take high positions in universities, labs and some have started student outreaches and fellowship groups. With the growth of the fellowship and the need to find an adequate facility to meet in, an attempt was made to start a gourmet coffee shop to pay for a four story building. Due to the novelty of the idea of ‘business as ministry’, the full capital investment necessary to obtain the building and start the Cafe was not obtained. Two years later Starbucks entered and Japan became their largest revenue maker for a number of years! This was the first ‘business as ministry’ endeavor. The sad part of this story is that the fellowship to this day, was never able to acquire sufficient facilities to grow. They have come under another fellowship after meeting in a small house that had many restrictions concerning when they can meet and how much noise they can make. This is by no means an unusual scenario outside the western world, in fact it is much more often the norm.
First government accredited Christ centered school in India
Collaborating with a certified teacher and with her soon to be husband and several local pastors, SFI NAs were instrumental in the starting and establishment of the first government accredited non-denominational Christ centered curriculum based school in India. This couple now runs the vocational teacher training program (go to Vocational Training tab and scroll to teacher training to read more about our teacher training program).
Established a school and farm in the rural country in Liberia
Partnering with a local indigenous apostle, SFI and NAs have built a school and supplied scholarships and support for the teacher staff as well as many students. This is the school that was started after a 4 day A G (Ag and God) seminar held in this extremely rural village. A farm has also been established. For more on this please see the Video on the front page. This is a growing and vibrant ministry!
Others
SFI has partnered with many apostolic leaders and ministries from a number of countries to establish S.A.L.T and light enterprises and projects of various kinds over the years, it would take a book to recount them all. We are now focusing on expanding and the implementing of our Sustainable A G model and our Vocational training modules which has proven to be highly effective and brought life changing impact in the byways and hedges, where there is a huge need for education and where subsistence farming is far and away the largest means of employment and survival.
